THE COURSE
The course is one of the oldest in the country. The first record of play on Keyneston Down was in 1896, although it is believed that golf was played here before that time. Part of the ‘ancient course’ is played over Buzbury Rings, a bronze age Hill Fort with magnificent views over the Stour and Tarrant Valleys. Constructed on downland, the fairways are undulating and although hole 3 does have a short sharp hill, all others are easy walking. Being natural chalk downland, the course drains very quickly and remains playable in all but the most extreme weather. Four holes are played within the ancient woodland of Ashley Woods, carpeted with bluebells in May. The course is 6284 yards long and is a good test of golf for all levels of ability.
