Malkins Bank Golf Course is a terrific, welcoming, Council owned course offering well presented facilities for golfers of all ages and abilities.

Most golfers are “regulars” and come back time and again.  This surely says something of the interesting challenge the course always offers.  You can choose to pay and play on each occasion or you can take advantage of one of the many season ticket options.

Societies are regular visitors and tend to make a day of the visit, enjoying the hospitality in the 19th Hole for breakfast, lunch, evening meal or all three!

Malkins Bank Golf Club is based at the Course and if you want to get an official handicap and try your luck in some friendly competitions, we will be very pleased to welcome you to the club.

Booking a tee time is easy.  You can telephone the pro-shop up to six days ahead or you can book in person in the pro-shop up to seven days in advance.  For group bookings further in advance see the special arrangements on the Societies page.

Malkins Bank – Easy to find, hard to forget.

Malkins Bank Golf Course is situated next to the Trent and Mersey canal between the historic market town of Sandbach and the lively village of Alsager, just north of the Cheshire and Staffordshire border, and just two miles from junction 17 of the M6.

From the North

From the M6 turn off at junction 17 onto the A534 and head west towards Crewe and Sandbach.  After 1 mile turn left at the first set of traffic lights and head towards Alsager and Newcastle on the A533.

Just 400 yards up the hill turn right next to the “Top of the Hill” chippy!  The course is sign-posted here and is only 1 mile along the road towards Hassall Green.  As you pass through the small village of Malkins Bank turn right between two old industrial buildings, over the canal bridge and onto the golf course.

From the South

You could follow the directions from Junction 17 of the M6 or you could get off at Junction 16 and make your way to the course through Alsager.

From Alsager town centre follow the signs for Sandbach.  Follow this road until the junction with the A533.  Turn left and head towards Sandbach for about half a mile and turn left at the cross roads next to the New Inn Public House.  The course is sign-posted from this point.  Head towards Hassall Green and take the first right towards Malkins Bank.  About a mile along the road is the course, on your left, just as you reach the village.  Turn left over the canal bridge to reach the course.

From the West (Crewe)

Follow the A534 to Sandbach and the M6.  When you reach the traffic lights at Sandbach turn right towards Alsager and Newcastle (A533).  Follow the same directions from here as when coming from the M6.

From Northwich/Winsford/Middlewich

Follow the A533 into Sandbach and follow the signs towards the M6.  At the second roundabout turn left towards the M6.  At the traffic lights just south of Sandbach town centre turn right back onto the A533 towards Alsager and Newcastle and follow the instructions as for coming off the M6.

From the East (Congleton)

Travel towards Sandbach on the A534.  Pass over junction 17 of the M6 towards Crewe, and follow the instructions for finding the course from Junction 17 of the M6.

NOT JUST A GAME OF GOLF

The 19th Hole, although quite small can cater for groups up to 40 in number.  Catering can be arranged by our chefs to suit your occasion from sit down meals to less formal buffets.  The staff at the 19th will be pleased to show you what is available and discuss your individual requirements.

The 19th Hole is open early for breakfasts until dusk and often later, offering anything from a cup of tea to three course meals with wine.  The regular menu is available for “call orders” while for organised groups the packages include additional special meal deals.  Just give us a call and we will do our best to meet your requirements.

The lounge, including TV and views over the 9th green offers a friendly atmosphere and provides a splendid conclusion to your day’s exploits on the course.

THE PRO SHOP

The new agreement between the Council and the Hamshaws Partnership has provided golfers with a great range of equipment and accessories at prices you will not beat anywhere else, including the high street discount shops.  Our price match promise has proved extremely popular, and our regular customers are saving time and money getting all their “golfing gear” at the best prices.

Another great service is offered if the item you want is not in stock.  We will obtain the item in just a few days at an agreed price which, don’t forget, will be the best price available.  Staff can also offer a full repair service as well as hiring out clubs, bags and trolleys.

The pro shop is the initial contact for all golf enquiries from casual users to club and society bookings.

THE COURSE

The 18 hole Hawtree & Son designed course has a different challenge around every corner.  The course opened in 1980 and was the culmination of an award winning land reclamation scheme turning an unsightly tip into a beautiful and popular amenity.

The par 70 course is set out in two 9-hole halves, the front 9 to the north west and the back 9 to the south east.  Two par 5’s on the outward nine offer birdie opportunities for longer, accurate players, while the par 4 fourth across the stream makes golfers choose between laying up, or going over the stream with the tee shot.  The stream then gives you problems if you go left down the 6th and 7th, but for straight hitters the fairways provide inviting targets!

The four par 3’s on the course are all a challenge, especially the “Signature Hole” 14th.  Trees left, right and even one silver birch to go over, through or around, make the short par 3 a really exciting challenge.  In fact holes 12, 13 and 14 are the “Amen Corner” of Malkins Bank.  Three very tricky holes, yet for straight hitters low scores are possible.

A practice putting green and practice area complete with practice bunker complete the playing areas.

FEES AND CHARGES

There is a full range of fees and charges to cater for everyone’s needs and circumstances.  As well as standard adult fees there are concessionary rates for seniors, juniors and Congleton Borough residents who qualify for certain welfare benefits.

Fees are available for 9 and 18 holes, summer and winter as well as all inclusive season tickets covering 5 or 7-day play.  A favourite for seniors is the 5 day all inclusive season ticket which can be purchased outright by cash, cheque or by credit/debit card, or by 12 monthly direct debit payments.

For up to date details on all the fee options please contact the pro shop staff.

GOLF DAYS, SOCIETIES, CORPORATE DAYS AND GROUPS

Societies and groups are very welcome at Malkins Bank and many include Malkins Bank on their calendar every year.  Some even play once a month through the summer season.  Packages are available to suit all needs from simply eighteen holes of golf to a full day from breakfast to evening meal.  The Pro-shop can look after your prizes at unbeatable prices to complete your special day.

Handicap certificates are not required although we do expect players to observe all the usual golfing etiquette on the course and abide by our reasonable dress code.

To make a booking first contact the Pro-shop to check tee time availability and once the tee off times are secured the exact catering needs and numbers should be confirmed with the Manager at the 19th Hole.
