It’s a curious combination of words but, lest you’re conjuring up visions of Staffordshire
buried under sand, the translation seems to be ‘the beautiful wilderness.’ As it
most certainly is. If you’re a golfer who enjoys the odd moment or two of red deer-spotting,
then this beautiful wilderness is very much for you. As it is for anyone who revels
in the wild English countryside at its best. For this is Cannock Chase, officially
an ‘area of outstanding beauty’ and the largest area of lowland heathland in the
Midlands. An engaging mix of parkland and woodland, Beau Desert will turn even the
very worst round into a sheer delight. It has that genuine sense of magic, which
is probably why, having been first introduced in the time of William the Conqueror,
the deer have stayed.
