Friendly. Flexible. Affordable. Three words that have been adopted as the hallmark for the Axe Cliff. The name might suggest that the eighteen holes of Axe Cliff circle the site of an ancient stone age settlement, as well, indeed, they might. On the other hand, they more probably point to the proximity of the nearby River Axe and its coastal town of Axmouth. This is deepest Devon. Or deepest Somerset. It all depends on which way you’re looking. West or East. The river is the dividing line. The course itself sits on the cliff tops, gazing out over the glorious depths of Lyme Bay. Look carefully and perhaps you’ll see the dolphins. Designed by the brilliant Lothian golfer and architect, James Braid, the course dates back to 1884 and constitutes some 6.000 yards of South Western magic. Wonderful golf and views to die for. And some of the most competitive green fees you’ll ever come across. Friendly. Flexible. Affordable. Axe Cliff is all of that. And then some.
